The President of the United States took on board Medical Devices manufacturers and distributors concerns and he has therefore decided to delay the application of the so-called Medical Device Excise Tax, whose entry into force was scheduled for January 1, 2018.

This excise tax, introduced by the Affordable Care Act, provided for the payment of an amount of 2.3% both on Medical Devices produced in the USA, and on products imported from abroad and it was to become mandatory as of 2013.

Manufacturers and importers of spectacles, contact lenses, hearing aids and devices intended for retail sale (retail tax exemption) would not have fallen under this obligation.
