{"id":31637,"date":"2024-02-23T08:00:34","date_gmt":"2024-02-23T07:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thema-med.com\/?p=31637"},"modified":"2024-02-21T15:36:29","modified_gmt":"2024-02-21T14:36:29","slug":"europe-proposed-extension-for-ivd-devices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thema-med.com\/en\/2024\/02\/23\/europe-proposed-extension-for-ivd-devices\/","title":{"rendered":"EUROPE: Proposed Extension for IVD Devices"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>On January 23, 2024, the European Commission proposed to extend the <strong>transition period <\/strong>provided for in Regulation (EU) 2017\/746 for <strong>in vitro diagnostic medical devices (IVDs)<\/strong>, aligning itself with the extension of March 20, 2023 for medical devices.<\/h2>\n<p>Currently,<strong>Class A, B and C<\/strong> <strong>IVD<\/strong> devices are expected to be compliant with IVDR (EU) 2017\/746 by <strong>May 26, 2027<\/strong>, and <strong>Class D<\/strong> <strong>IVD<\/strong> devices by <strong>May 26, 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If the European Commission&#8217;s proposal is accepted, Article 110 of the IVDR Regulation (EU) 2017\/746 will be amended and more time will be given <strong>to IVD manufacturers to prepare the technical documentation and the application for\u00a0product certification<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the new transitional arrangements proposed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>for high-risk IVD devices, i.e. class D, the transitional period would be extended until <strong>December 31, 2027<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>for medium risk IVD devices, i.e. class C, the transitional period would be extended until <strong>December 31, 2028<\/strong>;<\/li>\n<li>for low-risk IVD devices, i.e. class A and B, the transitional period would be extended until <strong>December 31, 2029<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, in order to benefit from the extension, the manufacturer shall fulfil certain <strong>conditions<\/strong>, similar to those set out in Regulation 2023\/607.
