{"id":14306,"date":"2020-04-15T17:31:51","date_gmt":"2020-04-15T15:31:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thema-med.com\/?p=14306"},"modified":"2020-04-15T17:31:51","modified_gmt":"2020-04-15T15:31:51","slug":"european-commission-officially-proposes-mdr-postponment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thema-med.com\/en\/2020\/04\/15\/european-commission-officially-proposes-mdr-postponment\/","title":{"rendered":"European Commission officially proposes MDR postponment"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Last April 3, 2020 the\nEuropean Commission officially proposed to postpone by one year, until <strong>May 26, 2021, <\/strong>the <strong>application date<\/strong> of the <strong>MDR (EU) 2017\/745<\/strong> to allow the Member\nStates and the Health Institutions and the Economic Operators to give priority\nto the battle against COVID-19 pandemic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thema-med.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/CE-proposta-ufficiale-rinvio-MDR-1-1024x535.png\" alt=\"European Commission officially proposes MDR postponment\" class=\"wp-image-14308\"\/><figcaption>European Commission officially proposes MDR postponment<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The European Commission considers that the medical emergency caused by COVID-19 pandemic must be faced by making a great amount of medical devices available in the European Union, in order to guarantee patients health and safety until the new regulation enters into force.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Commissioner for Health\nand Food Safety Stella Kyriakides stated: <em>&#8220;Our priority is to support\nthe Member States in dealing with the crisis provoked by COVID-19 and protect\nthe public health in the best possible way, with all the necessary means. Any\npotential market disruption concerning the availability of essential and safe\nmedical devices must and shall be avoided. The current decision is a needed\nmeasure in these extraordinary times.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By the end of April the\nEuropean Commission proposal will be evaluated and eventually accepted by an accellerated\nco-decision procedure by the European Parliament and by the European Council,\ndefining the relevant details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Concerning the IVDR (EU) 2017\/746 the application date would\nremain May 26, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the MDR can be postponed by one year, the requirements to be applied are a lot.
