On November 21, 2019 Health Canada announced the creation of the Directorate for Medical Devices within the Health Products and Food Branch.
This department will be mainly tasked with bringing together specific post-market functions, currently managed by the Directorate of Marketed Health Products Directorate and pre-market functions entrusted to the Directorate of Therapeutic Products Directorate.
The creation of the new body will allow Health Canada a sharper focus on this constantly-evolving category of products.
The Directorate will also contribute to increase scientific and internal policy skills, by modernizing processes to respond to rapid innovation cycles, and to enhance resources that promote transparency and stakeholder engagement activities across the medical device life cycle.
